REVEALING AND PRESERVING RECORDS OF INDIGENOUS HISTORY
Site C
UX/UI DESIGN, EXHIBITION DESIGN
BC Hydro has been working on their Site C hydroelectric project, and with Indigenous communities whose territory will be impacted in the Peace River valley. The Site C Culture and Heritage Resources Committee created a travelling exhibition to document past use of the area, stories from various communities, and to commemorate sites that will be lost due to filling of the reservoir. We created an interactive touch-screen piece for the exhibition.
*Project as part of Denman Digital.
Concept & Design
The exhibition includes important archaeological evidence uncovered from the Site C construction area which spans from the time of giant animals 12,500 years ago until the recent past within living memory. Our goal was to allow the visitor to explore the thousands of artifacts found, information about the communities, stories, trails and important places.
Experience
Each pin is clickable and opens a side panel with information related to artifacts, present-day communities, trails & travel stories, forts & trading posts or important places. Some pins open up to more than text, you can explore galleries as well as audio testimonies and stories.
The installation
The touch-screen was part of the central piece which represents two drums linked together, place on an image of the river.
